This hack was a lot of fun. I saw another vanagon that had one of these and I just HAD to have it. I ordered this bottle opener from a company called Homebrewers Outpost and we were in business. We painted it, and then installed it. I get so many comments about this little hack and it works great!
Drilling the holes…
We put some epoxy in the holes to protect against rust…
Now the final product…works great!
The funny thing is we get the most comments about this hack. Whenever someone see us at the store, or the park, they always comment on the bottle opener.
I think I would have put it on the bumper… or onto the hitch. Drilling holes in the body makes me cry.
Nah. We want to do things on this Vanagon that we otherwise would not do on another car. We get the most comments from this hack.

VW put one in the van at the factory. You just need to know where it is…
Open the pass or drivers door and look at the u shaped latch that could be the door latch, or is it a bottle opener?? You decide. Been using this for the 10 yrs or so I have had a Vanagon.
Here is another tip for Vanagon owners. Ever noticed that your van always seems to need fixed? What to drive when it’s in the shop??
I took care of this by buying another Vanagon! Now when one is down, I have another to drive.
