File this one under crazy paint jobs. We’ve seen a lot of crazy Vanagon paint jobs and this one definitely qualifies for the list. It’s a hippy peace van, yet it still looks good. I would love to see the interior of this van. If you zoom in close, it appears that the cab is walled off from the rear of the van. Interesting, but the paint job takes the cake.

painted-wheels

After looking at Vanagons every day, I cannot believe I’ve never come across this one before. This van sports stock wheels, but they’re painted so they look great. Add them to the painted bumpers, eyebrows, clear turn signals, and smaller side view mirrors, and you have yourself a very nice van.

painted-bumper

This Vanagon is used on a page about a Vanagon Factory Service Manual, but who cares about the manual? I love this van. The paint job looks fresh, and they’ve painted the bumpers and grill to match. Add in some driving lights and you have a Vanagon we would all love to drive. This one even looks good with the stock wheels.

daisy

The owner of this 1984 water cooled camper obviously has no fear, and was probably bored with their brown camper. Although the paint job is not my cup of tea, there is something endearing about someone painting their van to their own liking. In this case, even the hub caps match the theme. They call her, Daisy.

Is this really a camp paint job? Not really, but it’s very similar. Unless you’re hiding in a paint shop you will actually stand out with this Vanagon. I love how he painted the roof rack to match. I always appreciate a Syncro that’s well done!

dip

If you are going to restore an old Vanagon you might consider a complete paint stripping and chemical dip for rust. This kind of full restoration is very involved, but the results are amazing. Surface Processing Ltd (SPL) of the UK does full chemical dips for rust and has a variety of cars on its website. Don’t you wish your van’s body could start like this?

graffiti

Talk about unique. This 1986 VW T25 Holdsworth camper was recently for sale in the UK, and by the looks of it the van was hacked up quite a bit. It has an interesting graffiti paint job that seems perfect for a surf mobile. The listing says it has a “Rosie”! Recon 1600 turbo Diesel engine. The van has since sold and all pictures removed.

painted-intake-scoop

In case you just can’t stand those black intake scoops on the side of your Vanagon, here is a hack for you. Covering and painting the intake scoops make them look much better. This Vanagon owner did just that and it is a success. Small details like this make the Vanagon so much sexier!

wood-grain

Wouldn’t it be fun to drive a Vanagon with wood paneling? I ran across this early 1980’s Vanagon that was apparently for rent. The picture was originally found at Valley Westys Vw Camper Rentals, but they no longer have it on their website. The wood grain paint job is interesting to say the least but this guy doesn’t stop there. Check out the incredibly small side view mirror and roof rack.

hand-painted

Check out this hand painted Vanagon. Owned by couple named Bruno and Laura, this Westy is one of a kind. It appeared in an annual parade organized by the VW Club of El Salvador, the Caravana por el Día Mundial del Escarabajo (Caravan for the International Day of the Beetle). A quick trip to their website revealed more pictures of the painting process. Click through to see more.
